HOSTED BY: TOMA-now (Janie Potgieter)
Southern African Association of Hong Kong (Olga Kruger)
Clothing drive from 14 April – 31 May:
Drop-off locations: Barre2barre, 4/F Cheung Hing Commercial Bldg, 37 Cochrane St, Central, The Guest Room, 29 Oak street, Tai Kok Tsui
In Hong Kong there is a vast gap between the haves and the have nots. It is an affluent city; however, the conspicuous wealth highlights the social inequalities. Many individuals in Hong Kong are sleeping rough, one in five live below the poverty line, and a vulnerable section of the elderly population need to collect rubbish to earn a meager living.
The Street Store is a pop-up store where the homeless can shop for free. Being able to choose instead of having to take what’s given to you restores power and agency to homeless and vulnerable individuals. We would like to invite you to make a contribution towards restoring dignity to those in need. Bring your gently-worn, clean clothing to the event.
If you can’t make it on the day but still want to contribute, drop off at one of the following locations:
